Description

Challenge #1 For :iconhetherev:

-You have arrived on the mountain! Unfortunately the mountain is very dangerous and your arrival won't be easy. Pick your poison, have you arrived in a nest of giant carnivorous birds, or perhaps on a cliff? Were you unlucky enough to end up on the only active volcano. Or were you one of the lucky few to arrive on the snowy peak, where you're found by the local mountain man and lead back to his cave? Are you so remarkably lucky you've fallen into a hotspring? Make your choice!

The wind was howling with the ferocity of a raging army, the cold wind biting like a venomous snake. Amidst the infinite field of blinding snow lay a tiny brown dot, nearly half-buried in the mountainside.

Evan let out a groan, and slowly came to. He had been somewhere warm, but now he was here . . . wherever here was. He looked around, squinting against the stinging wind. All he could see was snow, snow, and more snow, but if he got lucky he could catch a glimpse of some jagged mountain peaks far off in the distance. And for some reason there was an annoying grey blur in his field of vision where his nose should be. He brought up a hand to wipe the obtrusion away, and was startled when his hand banged against the grey thing and he felt it both in his hand and in his face. That didn't make much sense. He rubbed his hand over the thing in front of his face, and found out that it was firmly attached to his face and doubled as both his nose and mouth. It was a beak.

Evan felt like giving himself a pat on the back for his recent discovery. Now he examined the rest of his strange body. He was covered in brown feathers, with a white chest speckled with brown spots. His legs were long, gangly, and scaly yellow equipped with four toes and razor sharp talons. Bird feet, bird beak, he must be a bird-man. Another great accomplishment, Evan was sure of. He wasn't certain if this was his normal form, or if he used to be something else. A nagging doubt lingered in his mind, but he pushed it away for the moment. He was just going to have to get by with being a bird-man for now.

Two hefty wings hung off his back and very large tail feathers were attached just as firmly to his backside. Maybe he could fly out of here and back home to wherever home was.

He spread his wings, and the wind caught him and hurtled him through the air like a hapless kite. He tried to steer and regain his sense of direction but the wind had no mercy for him, and slammed him against the face of a mountain. He crumpled to the ground, badly shaken but thankfully not badly hurt.

He shook his head. Ok, no more flying, at least not in these winds. His wings folded up against his back and he proceeded to trek across the frozen wasteland. Almost automatically, his feathers ruffled up to keep him warm, and he realized just how lucky he was to have a nice thick coat of nice warm feathers. The wind still nipped at his skin, but he could tolerate it, and kept trekking on.

This is useless, he thought. I'm just walking in circles. But what other choice did he have? He had to keep moving and find help, or he'd freeze or starve to death out here.

Actually, looking down at his bird feet with sharp bird claws and his scaly yellow hands with equally sharp claws, he could probably catch a rabbit or something if he needed to eat. He was a bird-man thing, right? He could probably survive.

Probably.

He kept walking.

Poor Evan, crash-landed in the middle of nowhere during a blizzard. Sucks to be him :[
